Kids' Clay Camp – Summer Sculpture and Ceramics Course
A hands-on summer pottery and sculpture experience for school-age kids.
A hands-on clay art camp designed for curious, creative kids of all skill levels. Owned by a professional sculptor and ceramic artist, children will explore hand-building with coloured clay, including marbling techniques — creating real ceramic pieces that can be fired and used, not just temporary crafts. No pottery wheels, but hand making, shaping, and experimenting.
Working with clay naturally supports the development of fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness, while also encouraging patience, focus, and problem-solving through making.
Over the course of the camp, children explore a range of age-appropriate clay and sculpture activities, including:
- Hand-building vessels
- Pinching and sculpting animals or fantasy characters
- Creating patterned and marbled surfaces with coloured clay
- Painting clay pieces using fresh, ready-made clay paints
- Painting and decorating finished pottery pieces (such as colouring forms or painting images on mugs)
- Learning how to glaze selected works and prepare them for kiln firing (for children with the patience and motor skills required)
- Creating leaf bowls and textured pottery using natural materials and organic forms
Rather than following a single set project, each child will receive tasks tailored to their age, ability, and interests. Some may focus on functional pottery, others on sculptural or imaginative forms — every child works at a level that feels right for them.
Space:
Children will spend their time in a beautifully renovated terrace studio, designed to feel calm, welcoming, and comfortable. One of the spaces features carpets, soft seating, chairs, and cushions — creating a relaxed environment, not an industrial or warehouse-style setting.
Throughout the camp, children are guided by two classically trained, professional artists, both with formal fine arts education and extensive experience working with clay, sculpture, and painting.
This is not a craft session or “keep-them-busy” activity. Children are supported to develop ideas, solve visual problems, and gain confidence through making.
Projects are thoughtfully planned so returning children continue to develop new skills and ideas rather than repeating the same work.
